Alumni Information: This is a short but growing list of our alumni. We want to know where you are and what you are doing. Please, fill out the Response Form, and we will add you to our list. The graduates are now sorted alphabetically.

Allen S. Anderson (B.S., 1986): Dr. Anderson received his M.D. degree from Emory University in 1990. He is now Director of Heart Failure and Transplant Cardiology at the University of Chicago Hospitals.
Jennifer Garrison Bacon (B.S., 1997): Since graduation, I have been working at JM Huber in Macon. Currently, I am a Lab Manager/Tech Service Chemist in the area of paint and coatings in Huber's research and technology department. I have been happily married for almost four years now and have recently started back to school. I am working towards a Master of Public Health from the Mercer University School of Medicine. I would love to hear from some of my old classmates!
T. Wesley Barfield (B.A., 1987): After Mercer, I began working at CIGNA as HPLC chemist and also became QC Coordinator. I obtained my certification in industrial hygiene (CIH) while at CIGNA and later completed my MPH in Occupational Health and Safety from Tulane University. Presently I am working at Boeing as the Safety, Health, and Environmental Specialist in Macon on the C-17 Program.
Joeseph Bean (B.A., 1989): Drs. Crawford, Hargrove, Furse, and Giguere contributed significantly to preparing to participate in research at The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and gain my position at The Washington University School of Medicine. I completed my residency in Radiation Oncology at Duke and have been with a group of physicians based in mid-Missouri since July 1998.
James Brock (B.A., 2003): I am in graduate school in Mathematics at Auburn University.
Dale Browne (B.S., 1978): I am an Associate Professor, Dept. Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surger, Wake Forest University School of Medicine. I specialize in Had and neck oncology, cranial base surgery and head and neck reconstruction. My wife Linda (Class of '80) is hospital chaplain. We have two daughters, Virginia and Meredith.
Natashia Lee Conley (B.S., 1997) After leaving Mercer, I enrolled as a student at Morehouse School of Medicine. I completed school at Morehouse in 2001 with my MD. I am currently in my second year of family medicine residency at Mayo Clinic Jacksonville. I got married three weeks after graduation from medical school to my husband Marq. I ultimately hope to return home to the Atlanta area a join a multi-specialty group.
Garland Crawford (B.S., 1997) Garland joined the Army after graduation, and we have just recently learned (2008) that he has received his PhD in Biochemistry.
James P. Deavor (B.S., 1978): I am a Professor and Department Chair of the Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry at the College of Charleston.
Tad Daniel (B.S., 1999, Biomedical Engineering and Chemistry): A graduate student at Pennsylvania State University.
Heather Driver (B.S., 1998): Now at Mercer's Law School.
Ed Evans (B.S., 1983) After completing medical school at Emory and a residency in Family Practice at UVa, I practiced for eight years in Jasper before entering academia. I'm now the program director for Seneca Lakes Family Practice Residency Program in Seneca, SC. Wife is Wendy Muse Evans of Atlanta, grad. of West Georgia College. Three children: Warren (12), Walker (10), and Elizabeth (7).
Tiffany Ellis (B.A., 2002) UPDATE 2008! I finished my degree in May, and I am currently working in the Center for Science Outreach at Vanderbilt. My position is working with K12 programs, which includes coordinating a summer research program for high school seniors, working with the Scientist in the Classroom Program that pairs scientists with middle school teachers, and working with professional development for middle and high school science teachers. So, for now, Im staying in Nashville. Im glad to have a break from the bench and am really enjoying my new position.
Jason George (B.A., 2004) Just wanted to let everyone know that I am working in the fertilizer industry for Royster Clark as a quality control chemist.
James Hopkins (B.S., 1975): I graduated in 1975 with a B.S. in chemistry. I obtained my M.S. in chemistry at Emory Univ. in 1977. I went on to law school, graduating in 1989 and now practice law in Carrollton, Georgia specializing in family law and criminal defense. I am also a Magistrate Court Judge.
Tomas Kaplan (B.S. 2000): Currently working in Boulder, Colorado at Array BioPharma, Inc. (ARRY) as a research associate in the Lead Optimization group. I am also taking classes at the University of Colorado towards an MBA in International Business. I expect to complete the degree in December 2005. Who knows where I will end up after that.
Ken Lewis (B.S. 1991): I earned a Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. After a postdoc I worked in the discovery organizations of GlaxoWellcome and Lilly. In 2004 I started a CRO providing analytical services to pharmaceutical discovery organizations. Kevin Lisle (B.S., 1998): A graduate student in Chemistry at Yale University.
Alex Llanos (B.S., 1999): Alex is now at the Medical College of Georgia.
Neal Lovett (B.A., 2003): After graduating from Mercer, I attended the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Optometry and received my Doctor of Optometry degree in 2007. I returned to my hometown of Hazlehurst, Georgia and entered into private practice at Southern Eyecare, P.C. I also practice in Alma, Georgia two days a week at Family Vision Care..
Brent Mantooth (B.S., 1999): A graduate student at The Pennsylvania State University with a webpage.
Gregory L. Mattson, Sr. (B.S., 1981): Principle Analyst at Tecolote Research, Inc. Provide technical assistance to the U.S. Army's TOW Improved Target Acquistion System (ITAS) product within the Close Combat Weapons Systems (CCWS) Program Office. Also a Lieutenant Colonel in the U.S. Army Reserves assigned to the Office of the Assistant Secretary of the Army for Acquisition, Logistics and Technology.
Melissa Plount Price (B.S., 1996): I received my Ph.D. in organic chemistry from Yale University in 2000. Since then, I have been working as a computational chemist, analytical chemist, and most recently a clinical development project manager at a start-up pharmaceutical company in San Diego, CA, called Attenuon.
Julia C. Riggs (B.S., 2006): I am currently teaching at Eastside High School in Covington, GA. This is my second year and I have taught Biology, Chemistry, Quest Physical Science, and College Prep Physical Science..
Scott Savader (B.S., 1980): After college, I went on to medical school in Florida (USF), where I met my wife. We both did a residency in diagnostic radiology at USF. We then moved to Baltimore where I did a fellowship in Interventional Radiology at Johns Hopkins Hospital, and was then on staff there for 9 years, finishing as an Associate Professor with 70 peer-review articles and three books published. I have been in private practice in Indianapolis since '99.
Paul D. Schumacher III (B.A., 1991): I received my Masters degree in Analytical Chemistry from Washington State University in 2000. Currently a Major in the Army teaching at the United States Military Academy. I am the Course Director for CH 101/102 General Chemistry with 1100 students currently enrolled. My follow on assignment will be to attend the Command and Staff College at FT Leavenworth, KS with subsequent deployment overseas.
Karen Sinclair (B.S., 2001): After graduating, I taught 6th-12th grades for a year and then decided to go to graduate school. So, I am currently at the University of Georgia (GOOOO DAWGS!!) pursuing a Ph.D in Physical Chemistry. I am working for Mike Duncan in cluster spectrscopy and it is awesome!!! Jason H. Smith (B.S., 1999): Senior at The Medical College of Georgia. Will graduate in May 2003 and go on to do my Family Practice residency
Richard Smith (B.S., 1972): Owner of Sage Technologies, Inc. A 21+ million pound per year organic chemical production facility in Opelika, AL.
John L. Stubbs (B.S., 1995): I received my Master of Medical Science in Anesthesiology degree from Emory University School of Medicine in 1998. I am currently working as an anesthetist at Kennestone Hospital in Kennesaw, GA.
Melanie Tudor (B.S., 1998): A graduate student in Chemistry at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
Heather Voegtle (B.S., 1998): Congratulations to Heather for getting her PhD from the University of South Carolina (2002).
Larry E. Ussery (B.S., 1978): I am group leader for the Advanced Nuclear Technology Group at Los Alamos National Laboratory. I came to the laboratory as a post doc in 1982 and have been here since. My group conducts research with chain-reacting nuclear systems, supports nuclear emergency response programs such as the NEST team, and develops technology to support national efforts aimed at detecting and/or stopping the smuggling of nuclear materials. I have been married for 18 years and have two sons, Jonathan(14), and Christopher(11). I had to smile when I saw the comment in the recent newsletter about Dr. Hargrove. I was in the first class that he taught at Mercer, along with Dale Brown and Jim Deavor. I remember being a bit lazy at the time and Dr. Hargrove set out to let all of us know that he was in command. He worked us very hard but I changed my attitude and became a serious student during my second year. His guidance, as my professor, has left a lasting impression on me and the lessons of hard work, that I learned in his class.
An Vu (B.S., 1992,: Ph.D. from Emory University): Completed a postdoc appointment at theState Univ. of NY at Stony Brook, and now works as a medicinal chemist at Wyeth-Ayerst Research, a pharmaceutical division of American Home Product Corp.
Kelly Wade (B.A., 2003): I received the Masters of Medical Science degree in Emory University's Anesthesiology Assistant Program in Atlanta (August, 2006) and will be working in Atlanta.
Jason Walraven (B.A., 2000): I graduated in 2007 with a PhD in Pharmacology and Toxicology from the University of Lousiville. I started at WIL Research Laboratories in September 2007 as a toxicologist.
Bradley Waters (B.A., 1990): Currently working as a QA Scientist for Glaxo Wellcome, Inc., in Zebulon, NC
Shane Waybright (B.S., 1997): A graduate student in Chemistry, and Lipscomb Fellow at the University of South Carolina.
Chanda Elam Wilburn (B.A., 1993; M.S.. Univ. of Tenn.): I wanted to send a quick note to let you know that I was accepted and am attending the University of Akron Graduate Program in Chemistry. I have decided to pursue a doctorate in Biochemistry.
Wendy Wood (B.A., 2001): I am happily married, so my name is different (it was Joyner). I am working at Brown and Williamson as an anlytical chemist.
